About Department

Welcome to the Department of Civil Engineering at Government Polytechnic Nabarangpur. The Department was founded in 2013 with a sanctioned intake of 60 students per year. The department offers a three year diploma course that consists of core civil engineering subjects such a Structural Design and Engineering, Surveying, Estimation and Cost valuation, Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Construction materials & Engineering and Building Planning and Drawing.
Apart from these regular subjects, students are also trained to operate Total Station and work with software’s involving Computer Aided Drafting, Structural Analysis and Design, Estimation, Project Planning and Implementation and GIS. The Laboratories in the Department are well equipped to enable practical learning with better understanding and to ensure the optimal consolidation of their knowledge.
Since 2013 the department has played a vital role in moulding the students to excel in their carrier. The alumni of the institution have been employed in various prestigious firms. The entire diploma course is designed in a manner that it would groom the students to become efficient field supervisors who would strive to maintain the highest standards in civil construction. The faculty members are recruited by the Odisha Public Service Commission and are competent to deliver a positive learning experience with their excellent academic credentials. The technical staffs are also proficient in their respective fields. The faculty members are encouraged to participate in various faculty development programs to enhance their domain skills. The Department also offers consultancy service to various stakeholders including Government Departments and Private firm.

VISION
To be a foundation department of excellence in providing quality technical education and to produce highly competent civil engineers to serve the society.

MISSION

  • To develop a culture where faculty members and learners can enjoy learning through various faculty development programs to upgrade their skills and knowledge.

PROGRAMME EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEOs)

PEO1:

To equip students with the fundamental knowledge on theory and practical subjects of Civil Engineering to pursue higher studies.
 

PEO2:

To build up professional skills that prepares students for direct employment in government, public and private sectors in various fields of civil engineering to take up various roles and responsibility.
 

PEO3:

To build Entrepreneurial, Communication and other Soft skills of students by providing hands on training on efficient civil engineering practices to become a successful professional.

Programme outcomes (POs) of Diploma in Engineering

PO1: Basic and discipline specific knowledge:

Apply knowledge of basic mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and engineering specialization to solve the engineering problems.
 

PO2: Problem Analysis:

Identify and analyse well-defined engineering problems using codified standard methods.
 

PO3: Design/development of solutions:

Design solutions for well-defined technical problems and assist with the design of systems components or processes to meet specified needs.
 

PO4: Engineering tools, experimentation and testing:

Apply modern engineering tools and appropriate technique to conduct standard tests and measurements.

Apply appropriate technology in context of society, sustainability, environment and ethical practices.

PSO1:

To apply the laboratory investigations, code of practices and software skills to plan, design, analyze and execute all kinds of construction projects with good foundation knowledge in mathematics and science ensuring standard quality.
 

PSO2:

To build Civil Engineering-based systems in the context of environmental, economical and societal requirements and the serve the community as responsible professional.
